Changing Seasons

“The seasons change, and you change, but your Lord abides evermore the same, and the streams of His love are as deep, as broad, and as full as ever” - Charles Spurgeon
As Thanksgiving comes around this year, I think about the things I am thankful for: the ups, the downs, my highs, and my lows. Like the times of the year and the leaves of the trees, we all have different seasons in our life. While each of the points I just listed are important to be thankful for, I am especially thankful for the times in my life where I felt the lowest I ever have. Where I felt I was alone, where there sometimes seemed no hope. But, those were the times that God gave me. He gave them to me so I could try and find strength in myself, knowing I would eventually need Him to lean on. There have been points in my life that I felt there was no way to escape the cage I was locked in, but those were also the times God was pursuing me with His love more than ever. All I had to do was look to Him and ask for His help, to surrender completely. Last year I went through a heart break that I never thought would happen to me, one that left me feeling at the bottom of the deepest pit in existence with no way out. That exact pit is where I found a love for God that I believe never would have been achieved any other way.
Christopher Columbus, Mark Zuckerberg, and Steve Jobs are a very small representation of people who had a desire or passion to do something great. They will be remembered time and time again for the things they achieved. While on a smaller scale, there are things that I have done that may or may not be remembered. While it would be great to be remembered by my high moments, I also want those I love to acknowledge my low moments. These are the times when my true character was shown. They say the measure of a man is not in his pleasures, but in his low moments. The down points of my life are when the real me appeared. That character is the man I want people to remember me by. Not some high and mighty person who did everything right, but one who was humbled by his mistakes and found ways to learn from them and do better the next time they may happen.
Never overlook your lowest times as nothing! Because God is using these moments to shape you for an amazing future!
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." - Jeremiah 29:11
